World Bee Day
World Bee Day is coming! This Saturday (20th May) the world celebrates World Bee Day, one of the most important days in the year!
It is a day dedicated to highlighting the plight of these tiny creatures. Without these prolific pollinators world food production would drastically reduce. A third of the world’s food production depends on bees, i.e. every third spoonful of food depends on pollination by a bee. They are also vital for the preservation of ecological balance and biodiversity in nature.
Sadly these beautiful creatures have been steadily declining in number for a while. The main causes are the widespread use of insecticides (particularly Neonicotinoids) in agriculture, urbanisation and global warming.
World Bee Day is a day dedicated to reminding people of the impact that bees have on the world.
